SketchUp Design Sprint Challenge 2025: Small Spaces, Big Futures

Calling all SketchUp designers!

It’s SketchUp’s 25th anniversary, and to celebrate, they are inviting designers to imagine what the world might be like in 2050.

The SketchUp Design Sprint Challenge 2025

Your mission is to work within a 500-square-foot limit and create spaces that address future social and/or environmental challenges.

Designers can choose to focus on an interior, an exterior, or a landscape setting. The key is to make the space matter.

With growing pressure on urban space, participants are asked to consider how compact design could improve the way people live, move and interact in 2050.

Whether the focus is sustainability, accessibility or community benefit, the goal is to present a space that serves a clear purpose. It must also be grounded in practical thinking and real human needs.

Designs will be judged on:

  • Environmental impact – energy use, biodiversity, carbon capture or similar.
  • Social access – design that considers inclusion, local value, or accessibility.
  • Visual and functional strength – attractive design that feels natural, smart or distinctive.
  • Use of SketchUp tools – entries must showcase at least one of the following:
    • SketchUp Diffusion
    • Ambient Occlusion
    • Photoreal Materials
    • Environments
    • Live Components

Participants have a strict time limit of 60 minutes to complete their design using SketchUp only.
