LayOut 2025 – Better Tools and Easier Workflows

SketchUp 2025 launched earlier in 2025 with a whole bunch of new features. The area with the biggest updates has to be LayOut! SketchUp has taken a ton of feedback on board, including frustrations with LayOut being too far removed from SketchUp.

Let’s have a look at the new tools!

What is LayOut?

LayOut is a companion tool for SketchUp Pro. It’s used to present 3D models in 2D format, making it easier to create scaled drawings, annotated plans, and presentation documents. You can place SketchUp models into LayOut, add notes, dimensions, and graphics, and then export the result as PDFs or printed documents. It’s especially useful for architects, interior designers, and construction professionals who need to move from modelling to communicating ideas clearly on paper.

2025 Highlights

  • Rotate, Copy, and Scale tools now work in the same way as SketchUp
  • You can now join multiple elements in one go using “Join Selected”
  • The new Zoom Window tool (Z) allows you to zoom into a selected area of your document.
  • LayOut supports the new Environments and PBR materials
  • You can now Print/Export from the Page Inspector, and you can export an individual page, or a range of pages, rather than the whole document.
